Automating the Insert Symbols Command in Word |

|
There are times when you need to repeatedly insert a symbol in Word. For example, when writing about numbers, you may need to distinguish between the letter O and the number 0. Using a slashed zero can help.
To Word the slashed zero is a symbol that can be inserted from the Symbols dialog box. If you use that symbol a lot the process can be quite tedious and time-consuming. Here is a tip to streamline the process.
Add a symbol to AutoCorrect- Place your insertion point where you want the first symbol to go.
- Click on Insert, Symbol... on the menu.
- Select the appropriate symbol in the Symbol box.

- You can click the Insert button and it will insert the selected symbol at the insertion point each time you click the button.
- To automate the process, click the AutoCorrect... button.
- In the AutoCorrect box, the selected symbol will be inserted into the Insert With field.
- Type a keystroke that you will remember to trigger the AutoCorrect to replace with the symbol. (In this case i chose a slash and zero.)

- Click the Add button and OK.
- Now, back in the document, type the keystroke that you chose.
 - When you type a space, tab or enter the AutoCorrect will change the keystroke with the symbol.
 - When you exit Word the new AutoCorrect addition will be saved in your Normal.dot template to use again and again.
