Using the Format Painter in PowerPoint PDF Print E-mail
The Format Painter will allow you to copy formatting from selected text or from a selected object and apply it elsewhere. The Format Painter will allow you consistency while saving all the time of formatting again and again. Here are three examples of how to use the Format Painter.

Using the Format Painter on PowerPoint Slide Text

  1. Select a sample of text with the formatting you would like to copy. In this example we will copy the red text.

  2. Click on the Format Painter button on the Formatting Toolbar.

  3. Note that the mouse pointer now includes a paint brush. Drag the mouse pointer over the text where you would like to paste the formatting.

  4. When you release the mouse, that text will take on the formatting of the originally selected text and the mouse pointer returns to its normal shape.

  1. Select the formatted graphic.

  2. Click the Format Painter button on the Formatting Toolbar.

  3. Note that the mouse pointer now includes a paint brush. Click on the unformatted graphic.

  4. The second graphic will reflect the formatting of the first and the mouse pointer returns to its normal shape.

Using the Format Painter on PowerPoint Slide Text Boxes

  1. Select the formatted text box by clicking on the border until the border looks like tiny dots. (When the border consists of hash marks you are in the edit mode and can work inside the box but not on the box as a whole.)

  2. Click the Format Painter button on the Formatting Toolbar.

Multiple sets of text, graphics or text boxes

If you want to “paint” more than one set of text or more than one object instead of one click on the Format Painter button, double-click it. The Format Painter will stay activated for use until you click the Format Painter button again.
